Summary: The main theme of this work is patrimonialization, starting from its understanding as a
process that promotes the redefinition of cultural places and nature on global scales,
and in which the patrimonial object (buildings, places and landscapes) cover the
social dimension, becoming an attractive agent of value, in development processes (
continuity) and urban and territorial redevelopment (transformation). The object of
study, the community of Alto Liberdade, municipality of Marilândia, northern region of
the State of Espírito Santo, began its occupation process between the 1920s and
1930s, carried by Italian colonizers. The place, covered by forests, gives way to
coffee plantations, in addition to the planting of rice, beans, vegetables, cassava and
others, constituting the population's survival base. As at the time of its formation, the
community's economy is structured in agriculture, complemented by livestock
farming. At the social level, in this period, of approximately ninety years, the
community is structured and rooted in socio-cultural practices promoted by
leadership agents who, from generation to generation, sustain a dialectical
interaction between continuity and transformation of the community space. For
Massey (2009), this process, with the existence of multiplicities and not as a closed

system, allows the opening for the future. On the other hand, it is long-term socio-
cultural models, of contextual knowledge and knowledge that allow the permanence

of local values in Alto Liberdade, influencing the inhabitants' inter-social and
intercultural relationship. Faced with this problem, the study proposes to investigate
and establish local engines in favor of a social patrimonialization in Alto Liberdade.
Therefore, it is adopted a qualitative and empirical methodological procedure through
i) conceptual approach of the central themes of the investigation: the
patrimonialization, the notion of territorial patrimony and the methodology of identity
representation; ii) representation of the values of existence of Alto Liberdade, with
the help of geoprocessing tool, such as QGIS software, according to three

syntheses: environmental, territorial-landscape and socio-economic, in the technical-
scientific and social spheres, through the application of two activities: cognitive map -

free representation of the individual's understanding of one's environment - and
questions answered on the online and free Google Earth Pro program, in order to
represent heritage values from the perspective of the inhabitant; iii) establishment of
local heritage engines, based on the recognition of heritage values from the

perspective of the local inhabitant. As a result, this study presents the local engines
in favor of the self-sustainable patrimonialization of places, with Alto Liberdade as
laboratory territory, interpreting and confirming the integrating character of the
manifestations constituted in the past, practiced by its residents, as active in the
elaboration of the present and with projections for the future of the place and its
