Summary: Energy efficiency has become an increasingly discussed topic in society and at the
scientific community. However, studies that relate this theme to historic buildings are
few compared to contemporary buildings. However, the potential for reducing energy
consumption for historic buildings is considerable, and can assist in global energy
efficiency goals. This research aimed to propose parameters to improve the INI-C,
aimed at assessing the energy efficiency of buildings of historical and cultural value.
For this purpose, a cut was made between the listed assets in the city of Vitória –
ES, in order to cover all the historical construction methods, which resulted in four
buildings. The selected buildings were: Anchieta Palace, Maria Ortiz School,
Superintendence of the National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute - IPHAN in
Espírito Santo and Solar Monjardim Museum. The methodology adopted in the
research had eight stages: (1) definition of buildings; (2) data survey relating to
buildings and identification of the construction methods, as well as the calculation of
the thermal properties of the predominant construction techniques; (3) labeling the
efficiency of the envelope of buildings using the prescriptive method proposed in
RTQ-C; (4) creation and configuration of virtual models of buildings, with the aid of
the computer simulation program DesignBuilder, version 3.4.0.401; (5) calibration of
the models; (6) labeling of efficiency of the envelope of buildings using the simulation
method proposed by INI-C; (7) establishment of parameters for energy labeling of
historic buildings, facing the envelope, and subsequently carrying out a new labeling
with the same method, using the proposed parameters. The construction techniques
studied were stone and lime, the “pau-a-pique” and solid ceramic brick. The results
showed that the RTQ-C labeling achieved the same levels of efficiency for all
buildings; those carried out with INI-C achieved differentiated labels, as well as those
carried out with the proposed parameters, that presented results more consistent
with the reality of historic buildings.
