Summary: This essay takes value from the flow spaces in the cities, in effort to contribute with approaches and urban studies focused on the challenges of the contemporary urban planning keeping the pedestrianism as its protagonist. The opening chapter points out concepts adopted for the critical thinking development which will be reinforced in the text: city, citizen, pedestrian-citizen and their economic, social and cultural interactions, through a new sociability under evolution. It values the act of walk through the city as generator of new social interactions in a way to amplify the changes in the flow spaces of daily life. The next topic is shown as a bibliographical review highlighting two authors - Kevin Lynch and Yi-Fu Tuan - who deal with the interface between walkability and vitality on public spaces, whose approaches are intended to be updated throughout this essay. Jerônimo Monteiro Avenue and its surroundings are the empirical object addressed in a specific chapter, due to its historical and functional role within the city of Vitória (ES), focusing on its memory and the experience at the place. The adopted methodology presupposes bibliographical research, documentary and paths mapping, intended to identify points of convergence and conflicts, nodal points and flows, from the analysis of its morphology in comparison with the pointed incursions. New layers are overlapped to the space reading as a look at the pedestrian movement and the view of the researcher also as a pedestrian. From that point, conflicts are identified regarding the use of Jerônimo Monteiro Avenue for the circulation of people and goods, in different transport modals with timing and speeds difficult to reconcile. It concludes with the need to consolidate critical thinking, pointing to opportunities for the potentialization of the walkability in spaces known as flows, but with vocations to stop and contemplation, making the spaces of flows became into living places.
