Summary: This research discusses the contribution of the German immigrant to the urban
architecture in the state of Espírito Santo, in particular to the architecture of the Area of Protection of the Cultural Environment of Santa Leopoldina, urban set protected by state tipping (1983). The historical, urban and architectural relevance of the urban nucleus of Santa Leopoldina, originally home of the Colony of Santa Leopoldina, installed in 1857, in the central region of the state of Espírito Santo, can be recognized by different heritage values, among which the material expression of the meeting of cultures. European immigrants arrive from the mid-nineteenth century, in search of new life, marking a new period in the history of the territory of Espírito Santo. Originating mostly from Germany and Italy, together with established Portuguese, Africans and natives, they incorporate knowledge into the preceding architecture. The urban nucleus of the city, a space of research, presents architectural production, dating from the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. In this context, considering the inexistence of studies dedicated to the understanding of the contribution of Germanic immigrants to the urban architecture of Espírito Santo, its recognition (identification, characterization, interpretation) is sought. For that, a qualitative approach is adopted, with historical contextualization, crossing and synthesis of existing contents in the visual document of iconographic sources and the textual ones of bibliographic and oral sources and empirical investigation. This methodology makes it possible to identify and architecturally characterize remaining constructions of the German occupation.
